A team of professionals works with you and your partner to resolve all aspects of divorce or separation for married or unmarried couples.

The Collaborative process is a voluntary, non-litigation process that utilizes a team of professionals trained in the Collaborative process: attorneys, financial neutral, divorce coaches, child specialists, and others as needed. The Team is put together based on your needs. Issues in the divorce or separation are resolved in a series of meetings with the support of appropriate professionals in cost effective ways.

The goal is to achieve a settlement that is customized to the needs of the parties and their children through a dignified, respectful process without the threat of litigation. Each person has an attorney that is trained in this process and you work with professionals based on the skill set that is most applicable to the issue at hand. Attorneys are not necessarily at every meeting, hence it is a cost-effective process.

Divorce and separation are more than just a legal process; it is a financial, social, and emotional one, too. Getting the input of professionals trained in relevant disciplines such as finance and family systems or child development gives you the information you need to make good decisions that will affect all of these areas of your life going forward. Working with a Collaborative team also helps you to feel supported and confident during the process, which can otherwise often feel isolating and confusing.

The Law Shop Minnesota’s Writing Team services include:

  • Explaining the Collaborative divorce process as well as other process options and helping you evaluate whether the process is best for your needs
  • Assembling a team of trained, qualified divorce/separation professionals from various disciplines
  • Drafting the Collaborative Participation Agreement
  • Discussing what goals you and your spouse or other parent have as you move forward so we can focus on what matters to both of you
  • Identifying legal issues that need to be resolved in your matter, such as custody, cash flow, support, and distribution of assets
  • Advocating for your interests and needs in meetings with your spouse and their attorney and other professionals as needed
  • Listening to what you and your spouse have as concerns to try and reach a settlement that both of you can have peace with and that keeps the children central to the decision making
  • Drafting and reviewing legal documents and filing them with the court
  • Tying up the loose ends after the court signs off
  • Assuring you do not need to appear in court

Writing Team services are offered at an hourly rate, so your total legal fees will depend on how much time is necessary to resolve your case to your satisfaction. Just because there are other professionals does not mean it will be more expensive. You are working in a system that works to minimize conflict and find win-win solutions, using attorneys when needed instead and other professionals to help decrease and manage costs, tailored to your needs. You can set up a Shop Evaluation with a TLSMN attorney to learn more about the Collaborative process, explore your options, and take the next steps to move forward with your divorce or separation process.
